    maxed out after one week

well i'm not really maxed out. But i havent worked out for about 1-2 months. I've been loading up on food and about two weeks ago i started working out at school for my aerobic conditioning class. The first week i was sore everyday the day after my workouts. But this week after four days of workout my body is sore in maybe one or two small areas. Has my body adapted to me working out already and i need to increase the weight? I have increased the weights but then my reps lower and i feel as though i'm not getting in as much a workout. What do i do? Is the soreness after a workout good?

It is a common experience that when an athlete attempts a new exercise there may be an occurrence of muscle soreness. This soreness, or more specifically “delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS),” usually peaks between 24 and 72 hours after the exercise session. The eccentric or lengthening portion of the exercise as described earlier primarily causes DOMS. Currently, the prevailing explanation for DOMS is micro muscle tears. The best-known way to reduce the development of DOMS is to “adapt” to the exercise stress. This requires repeated bouts over several weeks with sufficient rest between sessions. Since intense SAQ training involves eccentric exercise utilizing the stretch-shortening cycle, it is recommended that no more than two sessions per week separated by two or three days be employed with novice athletes.

DOMS is not an indicator of a successful workout.

So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Of course! Your not getting sore just means that your body is used to those particular exercises, but that doesn't mean it can't adapt. Consider all the different variables involved in training: exercise choice, RIs, tempos, intensities, TUT, etc. Just because your body is used to the exercise doesn't mean it's used to the weight you're using. Constantly challenge it in one way or another and you will be forced to adapt. If you're not getting sore but still seeing progress, you should be very happy. It's much more fun to get stronger without getting sore IMO. I'd rather be able to walk normally seven days a week...

As much as I like getting sore, I don't use that to gauge my progress. I use progress to gauge my progress! It's really not that complicated... Are you trying to get stronger, okay, did you lift more weight this time as opposed to 2 weeks ago? Are you trying to get bigger, okay, are you heavier than 2 weeks ago?
