    placement of deadlifts and squats in routine

    with the risk of this question being dumb, I'll ask anyway

    would it be a bad idea to place deadlifts and squats only 2 days apart in a weekly routine, for example, deadlifts on wednesday and squats on friday? I typically perform max-ot style sets, so that's probably 2 sets of deadlifts and 3 sets of squats for 4-6 reps each.

    I'm just trying to construct a 5 day split with the weekends off, and it's pretty tough to do, if you don't want to overload any one day. So far I came up with this:
    m-chest/tri
    t-upper back/traps
    w-lower back/hamstrings/abs
    th-shoulders/bis
    f-quads/calves

    There's nothing really wrong with it. You should be able to quickly adapt to such low volume. If you do, there will be no reason why you can't put those two exercises two days apart. Some people do them on the same day, but I don't think I could do that with any decent intensity.

    I'm just curious, why are you lifting five days a week? That seems like it would at least lead to overtraining if it's not already there. Maybe consider switching shoulders to Tues and biceps to Mon so you can at least have three days of rest in there somewhere. The day of rest will be between the deadlifts and squats, too, so it might be a good idea.

    I could definitely NOT do them on the same day as well, that was never an option for me.

    I am trying to go back to my original max-ot type routines I did a couple of years ago with a good amount of success, before I got away from it and went all over the place in my training. Even though it's 5 days in a row, I like the fact that each day is a lower overall volume. I guess it's just one of those things you need to try....work out 5 days with less volume each day, or work out 3 or 4 days with more volume per day.

    I was doing a westside routine, which was 4 days per week and that has A LOT more volume than my new plan has, and I got amazing results, but burned out after about 4 weeks to the point of being exhausted all the time. All I can do is try and see what happens

    Move the deadlifts and lower back to Tuesday. That will give you an extra day between deads and squats, plus Wednesday will be a relatively light day, giving you a "break" in the middle.

    I've tried something that involved working out six days per week. It worked for a while and I really enjoyed doing it. Three of the days were extremely low in intensity - basically just active recovery. The other three were high intensity and for the actual gains. I couldn't keep up with it forever, though. I probably just couldn't handle all the extra work like I figured I would be able to. Maybe it was a flaw in the design or maybe I just got bored. I don't really remember.

    I think it's fine. When I do full body workouts they usually occur every other day or MWF.
    The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
