How do you prevent your body...

how do you prevent your body to going into a catabolic state? I'm currently cutting and do cardio 3 times a week. Two of the days I do cardio I also do some weighted ab work, forearm work, and sometimes calf work, which consists of 30-50 minutes of work. After I do my abs, forearms and calfs workout, should I eat something before I do cardio. If yes, then should I eat something after doing cardio also.

It always helps to have a carb and protein shake during a workout. That is definitely a good anabolic practice.

Whey protein is the only supplement i'm taking. I took creatine for a while but haven't been on it in over five months.
