bf calcualtor accuarcy?

i recently used a portable bodyfat calcualtor, like one of those you enter you height, age, sex, weight into and hold, i was wondering how acurate they are, it said i was 11.5% which i thought was low.

Quite honestly, you probably didn't research it. You really do need to do some homework about these things if you expect them to be accurate. They send electrical signals through your body and time the response (from my understanding). So if you take a shower before using it, or eat, or drink, or lift, etc. different fluid balances will be thrown off and throw the readings to the wind. If you do as the instructions say, however, they are supposed to be fairly accurate. It always depends on which model you get as well.

So you're taking the word of a single test over the similar results of a dozen? That seems like a good idea... Anyways, if you tested each one incorrectly, what can you expect? Think about it...

Again you did not read what I posted.....go back and read it again.
The electrical test was given to me by a sales rep for one of the companies, several store owners who sold them, 3 personal trainers and a few times I did it my self....thats far from a single test and far from doing it wrong son....now go read a book.

Okay, I'll spell it out for you.

You took the word of the caliper test over that of the BF calculators.

You stated you had one caliper test

You stated you had over a dozen BF calculator tests.

This means you're taking the word of a single test over that of a dozen or more tests.

This is a dumb idea.

If you went to a doctor for a diagnosis and he said cancer, then eleven more said the same thing but a thirteenth doctor said it was nothing, would you go with the twelve matching opinions or the single opposing opinion? You went with the single opposing opinion.

Again, you probably didn't prepare for the tests properly. If you've used one, you'd know that it doesn't matter who handed you the machine. I can put the numbers in. You can put the numbers in. The president can put the numbers in. The machine doesn't know the difference. The same calculation will be made. The same result will appear on the screen. You see, it's not that you're doing it incorrectly, it's that you're not preparing yourself for the test correctly. Big difference.

I had one caliper test done at Golds Gym Venice and also had several electric tests......I did not say this was the only caliper test I ever had. I had several more done at differant times over a 3 year peroid.....every time the electric tests said I was 5-9% higher than the caliphers.....usually 8-9% higher.

Again you don't know what the hell you are talking about so it's best you stop before you make a even bigger fool out of yourself.

You can't expect someone to know information you don't present. If you don't include it, I don't know it. This should be something even a small child about 4'3'' would know, nonetheless an adult. I didn't say it was the only caliper test you ever had either. Based on the information given, you chose the results of one test over the results of a dozen or more tests. Anyone who knows anything about elementary statistics knows this is a bad idea. I had no reason to believe you had more than one test on which you based your opinion. You also have no idea how to properly prepare for the calculators. Don't rule out a test if it isn't properly conducted. That's like taking a calculus test after only going through geometry. You're not properly prepared. This is common sense and anyone who knows about these calculators knows that proper preparation is paramount. If you ask me who the fool is, I'd say it's the guy who left out half his story, added it in later and called the other a fool because of his own mistake, didn't research what he was talking about, and based his opinions on poorly performed tests. I really do enjoy arguing with you for some reason. Let's do it again soon.

You're just a sore loser. I'm sorry you lost an argument to someone only a small fraction of your age. Perhaps your mind is going. It happens with old age. Ask your doctor. And be sure to get twelve more opinions.

Sorry son but you lost big time......the idea you know who gave me these tests and what their qualifications were is laughable....grow up kid, if you want to argue then pic a topic other than anohter persons personal experiances. Pathetic.

True story, Squaggleboggin lived in LA from 1999-2002 and followed me every day....so he would know what I did and if I did it right.

Okay, being serious now.

You honestly press buttons to input your age, weight, height, sex, etc. Then you hold the device and press start. It gives you a readout. Are you telling me that it knows whether an expert put the numbers into it? You must really be losing it in your old age.

In addition, you're the one who must be prepared to take the test. The person who has the qualifications to punch in the numbers cannot prepare you. It involves you eating, drinking, etc. at all the right times (and other things too), not the qualified button-presser.

I had it done by the same people who test the pros at Golds gym venice.....I think they know a little more than you do about how to give these tests son.
Again, Pathetic.

Plus the test is not rocket science, even a tool like you could do it.
