    Training log.

I was wondering how many people here keep training logs. I personally feel keeping track of how much one is lifting is essential but i would like some other viewpoints.

I'm not going to post it in the poll as I do not think that training log's are for wusses, but I myself do not use them. I agree that you should be able to keep track on your gains, but I personally think that keeping a training log makes working out seem more like a chore than a hobby. I love to workout, it is one of my favorite things to do. For me keeping a training log would take some of the fun out of it. But to each there own and some find a training log very useful, it by no means makes them a wuss.

Yes I use one. It helps to push myself harder. I can look back before a workout and I try to push myself a little harder each time.

Hellz yeah! It's great to look back and make sure what you're doing is productive and know where you stand on various exercises as you change things around.

I use them. It's very effective for keeping track of how much I've progressed, especially as a student who now has alot more free time in the summer.

Right now I am young and relatively new to training so gains are so fast, my only limiting factor is not eating enough. No need for a log.

No...everyone should not have a log. I don't use one for the simple fact of I feel that I am stuck to that book. I do what feels right that day in my workout. I don't care how I felt 1 week ago during a exercise or how many reps I got last week. I am always pushing my hardest, so no need to carry around a pad and oencil in my opinion.

I don't go into great detail, but I do keep track of what I do.

You would be surprized. I still get a kick going back and seeing the amount I did 2 yrs ago vs now.

So do I. I can't imagine not having one. My memory is definitely not good enough to remember what exercises I was supposed to do and what I did last time for each one. Also, I think it's important to keep track of so many things that happen: What weights did you use last time? Six months ago? Have you progressed at all or are you just 'trying hard' with no results? Has your BW changed? How did this affect your training? What did you rate the workout that day as being - great, not so good, crappy and unproductive? What did you think of a particular exercise? What was your PR for weighted chin ups?

Like I said before, there are so many things to keep track of it's almost foolish not to keep a log if you're serious about progressing, but I digress.

I have one from years ago. It is very nice to look back and see what kind of accomplishments I have made over the years. But I have not kept one for a few years.
