    Bench Progression

What is too many pounds to add to a bench 1RM per month. I've been adding ~25lbs/month since September 2005. The only thing I've been takingis Anavol Creatine and Protein. I'm shooting for a 1RM of 405 by April. Is that unrealistic?

25 lbs a month is impressive. I don't understand what you mean by "what is too many pounds to add to a bench 1RM per month". My brain hurts trying to answer that question. If you can lift it, lift it!

What I was getting at by saying that was "Am I expecting too much of my body?" because I don't want to hurt myself plus I want to be realistic. A "1RM" is a one-rep max. When I started lifting to increase my bench press at the start of September I couldn't do 225 lbs 1x.
Every end of each month since then I've been attempting a 1RM to see where I'm at. Each end of month the 1RM has gone up (which I'm not complaining about!) by ~ 25 lbs. Sept: 225, Oct: 250, Nov: 275, Dec: 300, Jan: 325, and on 2/28 I'm gonna try 350. I did 340 once last week to see how my progress was doing. I want to get to 405 to do a Bench Press competition. I won't use a "shirt" because I don't believe in them.

Although I'm kind of doubting this progress will keep up to 405, I have heard of it happening before. You're one lucky guy to be progressing like that. There is really no way to accurately estimate the probability of this occuring though...

I'd say you are about to hit a point where progress will slow down. When I was doing mainly power work my first hurdle to progress came at around 305lbs at a body weight of 165. After that Progress would increase at around 20-30pounds for a full 12 week power cycle.

Granted in the world of powerlifting this was pausing at bottom and pressing the weight up. Not bouncing outta the hole like the bar is made of rubber.

When I reached my all time best of 360, I could touch and go with 385. Strict form makes all the difference. As you approach the heavier weights do not sacrafice form. Poor form = injury.
    Just a regular guy.

Not quite...I am thinking that this will slow down soon too. We'll see how my 40 reps (4x10) of 275 go tonite.

I wish my bench would go out like that. I'd be lucky to add 25lbs in a year.

Not a chance...thanks for your OPINION. I don't have to go on an internet forum to impress people. I decided to join here cuz it looked interesting. You don't have a clue how hard I've trained to this point. Moral of this post: You, sir, are an ass. You don't know me from diddly. Don't want to believe me? Fine...just don't call me a liar unless you have proof. If by "first cycle" you're getting at some kind of steroid I don't do that crap. Have a nice weekend...

Besides...30K+ posts in less than a year...what is this...your job?

No 'roids, never had this strength before, not full of shit. I admit it looks like a lot. Riddle me this...what do I have to gain by making this up? Nothing.

No offense dan....but I agree with foreman...nothing against you, but that kinda progress is unheard of...either you are genetically gifted or are exaggerating slightly....100lbs added to a bench in a year is a feat...even ON steroids....

That's what I was thinking. I know it sounds like BS but I'm not. I've always been a "big guy" but never really tried to do anything with it. See your disagreement I can discuss cuz you're not spouting wierd things. If I could find someone in this area that you'd believe I'd have them say something. All I can say is I'm telling the truth.

Yeah, 25lbs a month is a lot. I'm not doubting you, I'm just saying that it will probably slow down and your monthly rate will decrease. Also, about benching 405 at your size is not easy but very possible. I'm 5'10" and benched 420 at 225lbs so I promise you can do it if you keep working out hard.

This is what I was getting at by this thread. Wondering how long this would possibly go. I'm not naive enough to believe everyone can do this nor did I initally think I would be able to. I work my a** off in the gym to get where I am. Anyway...

350 lb bench attempt 2/27 or 2/28. I'll post and let you guys know what happened. I'll even try to have pics taken of me doing it or a video and post that.
