Buy a squat rack. I purchased mine used for $70.
i was just wandering if any of you had ne tips for putting the weight back down after a set of front squats without dropping the bar from shoulder height? i dont have a rack so i clean the weight up and cross my arms over the bar and find it realy awkward trying to grab the bar to lower it down again without just letting it drop making a massive bang in my garage lol - wat do u guys do, just let it drop?

Once you have a squat rack, give the weightlifting style a try. It's much more challenging than the crossed arms style.

Or just stay in the weightlifting style after you clean it, and when you put it down use a controlled drop.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I know I can't clean enough to challenge myself in the front squat. I could also never put it down gently enough from that position either. If he has bumper plates it's a different story of course, but something tells me he doesn't.Originally Posted by Dale Mabry

Yeah, just buy squat stands or go Squaggle's method and buy a couple of sawhorses. Or, even better, buy both so you have a nice, cheap, sturdy, and effective power rack.

arent sawhorses too small? or do u just squat down to 'rack' it or something? is a power rack better to buy than a squat rack - looks like u can do more stuff with it
Well sawhorses would be perfect, really. You could start the movement from the bottom like I do for more of a challenge. In addition, you can buy steel sawhorses adjustable in height that each hold 1,200 lbs from Home Depot for like $20 or something. Using these, you can start from the bottom and go as low as possible - just set it at a comfortable height and there you go. As CP said, the best option is to get both.

Homedepot.com has some that are $20 a pop (You need 2). You can see what they look like in Squaggle's gallery.Originally Posted by zapedy
