explosive strength/quickness

im not sure if lifting and doing more leg exercises has caused me to slow down a bit on the court ( i play tennis..) but i was wondering what you guys think are the best exercises to do to help improve my "explosive" speed and quickness.... sprints maybe?

Mimic the movements done in tennis. Ideally, play more tennis. Otherwise, do things like lateral shuffling and other explosive manuevers often found on the court. I believe Dale plays tennis and can add more useful things.

You need to perform agility drills that are specific to tennis. Running angles, starting, stopping, cutting, all things done during competition. Hypergravity training, and sprint assited training are also very good for improving explosiveness for sports. And of course you cannot forsake plyometrics.

Agility drills are a good start, plyometrics would be good in the future if you are already pretty strong. I would recommend different line drills and lateral/linear transitions. Simply put, I would first work on moving properly, then work on moving quickly. I have seen the men's/women's team here at PENN play from time to time, they have poor movement mechanics and those poor mechanics are reinforced every time they make a movement improperly. Doesn't help that they were never trained properly to begin with. A person with good mechanics can move in 2 steps the same distance a person with average mechanics can in 4.

besides shuffling back and forth what more agility do you need to table tennis? You aren't running around a court or chasing down a ball. In fact, for the most part, from what i have seen from those table tennis championships the guys are hitting so hard that they just stay standing in one place and hitting it back and forth until one misses or hits the net.

Keep on practicing Forest....you will get there some day and Lt. Dan will be there to cheer you on.

If playing it with your buddies, I recommend increasing alcohol tolerance. If you are tying to get into it competitively, hand-eye coordination and is prolly the only thing i would stress, you are only moving like 1 step in any given direction.
