I don't think there is a proper angle. I vary the angle I do inclines at depending on how much emphasis I want to place on my anterior delts. Declines are whatever is available, heh.

What is considered the proper angle (if such an animal exists) for benching on the incline and the decline?

I believe Iron Man has studies showing that inclines and declines at a 15 degree angle works the bestOriginally Posted by DOMS

I figured that 45° would be the maximum. Any more than that and it would become a more of a delt (vertical press) movement. 15° seems a bit shallow though.Originally Posted by Tough Old Man

The Weider bench I have doesn't give much of a decline compared to pictures I've seen on the internet. 15° maybe......
The incline is at 45°.

That's like the bench I used to have. It's worth shelling out a few extra bucks (euros) for a bench with a decent decline.Originally Posted by Nick+

I shelled out €200 for this bitch bench last autumn(fall). There's not much choice in the shops around here. Only solution would be to make one's own...... And as my welder has died.....(As in my arc welder )Originally Posted by DOMS
I could modify the weider bench of course (Weider Pro 420)

You're saying that no one in your area sells a decent bench at decent price? Tell me which city you live in and I'll try to find one online for you.

I'm sure I could get a good bench online BUT the price! I havn't got the bread. Thats why it might be better I buy myself a nice invertor welder(when I can afford it) and just do the thing myself......Originally Posted by DOMS
I don't live in a city I live in a dead end village, which boasts a post office, pharmacy(drugstore) and loony bin/home (I'm not in it -yet)I live two hours and 20 minute drive from a city called Toulouse....
It's no good ordering stuff from the US over here , the postage/delivery costs are mind blowing.

Here's a though: If you're good at welding and can produce a decently polished product, why not see if other guys in your area was pay you a few Euros to build them a decent bench?

In this area all people are crazy about is: bull fighting and rugby and wine and blathering non stop. Not about weight training/bodybuilding...........Originally Posted by DOMS
I might just start an internet site one day to build stuff like you say. Seems like there isn't much good benches or -what I really want as well- leg extension/curl benches around.
I spent hours reinforcing the damned leg extension on that weider bench(pro 420) with sheet metal and bolts/nut.It says in the instructions not to use it with a weight over 30kgs/50lbs I'm now heading towards 60kgs with it, its not snapped yet.
Right time for bed got to get up at 6:15am its now 11:20pm shit!

I broke the weldings on my Weider bench.Originally Posted by Nick+

the higher you go past 45 degree the more you are going to be getting into an overhead type of press.
