3/4 ass (not half ass) lifting

do i gain anything by not lifting with 100% effort ?

today i did
IM training:
bench:
set 1 230 x 7
set 2 230 x zero - didnt go up in weight cause i felt i could only do about 2 of
those.
set 3 230 x 6
set 4 180 x only 9 - not feeling very eager to lift.

By the way you lay it out, it looks like set 2 consisted of zero reps because you only felt you could do 2 reps

Then you did the same weight in set 3 and somehow pulled off 6 reps??? You dont have to be 100% intensity 100% of the time, some people dont believe in lifting to failure EVER. Bill Pearl claimed he didn't lift to failure and he was good for a 450 bench press.
