Women - Are walking lunges necessary?

Ok - so are walking lunges really necessary for a womens leg development??

I really don't like doing them (I do at the end of my leg workout) because after 2 day my ass hurts soo bad I can't sit down without pain.... no matter how many times I do them - even with very light DB weight.. .the result is still the same.

So do I quit whining and grin & bear it?

I don't care whether you are a woman or a man. But Please don't lunge. Lunges are unbalanced lunges are a load of crap.

Did them for boxing all the time. No weights just lunge across the gym and back in sets...great for developing balance and endurance.....in time you should get use to them.
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

ditto that. i don't really like them but i do them. if you don't want to do them walking then do them in a squat rack. there's not enough room in my gym to take a walk with a loaded BB without takin' people out with it. i don't think i would if there was room. just assume stay in the squat rack. bulgarians, step ups and reverse lunges are great also.

Me too. To add to BBW's list, I like unilateral squats standing on a bench and uni DB Romanian DLs also.

You squat on one leg with your back leg propped up on a bench. They are so damned evil.

I used to do lunges a lot!

Here's a couple things to vary your lunges:

When you stand up from the lunge... hold the rear leg behind you...just hold it for a few seconds... really squeezing your glutes...then pull that same leg through (without touching the ground)...go right into your next lunge. Continue across the room...basketball court is great!

When you get the feel of that...add 10# dumbbells.

P-funk, you should answer this question one more time for good measure.

I hate lunges, but they are recommended as part of a warm-up for sprinting so I do them.

I had lifted for a very long time before ever doing them, but I really like them now that I've tried them a few months ago. A bit cardio-tastic, great leg pumper for sure.

As for not doing them because of balance issues, if all you work out on are machines you are setting yourself up for injury due to your lack of training ALL muscles of the body through natural movements and moving your own body through space.

Fix the problem, dont ignore it.
