Question Do you train your neck?

Does everyone out there train their necks or am I the only one?

I know wrestlers and martial art people do but what about the rest of you.
I do bridge work (back and front) but that's about it...

I'm not talking about trap work, I'm talking about the neck specifically...

    Do you think it's important???

the best neck exercises would have to be the neck bridge and headstand.
the neck bridge is really good because it strengthens your neck and gets rid of any neck and back pain.

    Why train your neck??
Because it's part of your spine which is very important. It holds up your head!
Also to balance out the rest of your body that you work so hard on.

If you have a chicken neck....................it looks funny.

It takes more than a strong neck to do this, you need a good core to stay straight. Pretty cool.

Wow, that would be F-n hard.

Is that why you want a strong neck? so that you can stand on it?

I think the neck...like forearms....recieves plenty of ancillary work when training everything else.

Here ya go for an example....I myself am not big, but I'm well proportioned...my neck...arms...and calves are almost completely identical in size (all within an eighth of an inch IIRC)....they've grown together inch for inch...I have NEVER trained my neck...but have trained calves and arms extensively...

Congrats on those stats... PWGriffin you must be doing something right.

From what I am reading it seems like we all have our own unique reasons for training or not training our necks. It seems like there are two camps out there. Ones who simply do or don't do specific neck exercises for aesthetic reasons and others who feel that no body point should be less or more important than any other body part, so to train it, strengthen it, is just as practical as working your pecs, or quads or abs...

For myself I look at my week points and try to work on those things. Right now my neck is one of my week points so I have decided to try a few new exercises/ approaches to fix that. Like the headstand picture I posted, I am striving for overall balance.

It looks asinine but it's worth doing. It doesn't take long to be able to do it with your arms crossed. You can do it everyday. I cycle the exercise with my ab work. You will be amazed how good it feels after you do it a few times.
If you can hold it for 10-15 minutes I would like to come over to your house and shake your hand. I can only hold the position for 5 minutes. Some people add weigth, sandbags work well... good luck!

alot of prison inmates train their necks. If your neck is big enough it makes it nearly impossible to be put in a head lock

Training your neck is a must for any combat soldier, cause wearing your bucket with night fighting kit attached will destroy the average dudes neck after about an hour. Neck bridges and flexion drills are the best I find.

I don't really have a reason to train my neck. If I played a sport that warranted it, then I would.
