    Slow Twitch Fibers

I want to know if I have this right.. If you train slow twice fibers then you will gain size and endurance more then strength. If you train fast twice fibers you will gain more strength then size and endurance. Say if I do BB curl slowly instead of fast I will gain more size on my biceps rather then strength. I know size and strength are closely related but there are different ways to do one more then the other. Bodybuilder and Powerlifter, so bodybuilders train slow twice fibers mostly and powerlifters train fast twice fibers..

    Thanks in advance

if you train slow twitch fibers you will have great amounts of endurance.

if you train your fast twitch fibers you will have great amounts of strength. it is also these fibers which have a greater potential for hypertrpohy.

so slow twitch fibers are endurance so say holding weight in for hands for a longer amount of time for an example and fast twice build size and strength. my goals are to get stronger and bigger so I should train fast twice fibers right?

slow twich would be holding the weight in front of you depending on how long you are holding it for. Thinks steady state cardio as slow twitch fibers.

for fast twitch think general weight lifting in a rep range of 1-12. For hypertrophy a rep range of 6-12 is usually generically reccommended.

Is it possible to know what twitch fibers you have in your body that are more dominant than the others?

I believe the only way is a muscle biopsy.

Just looked through the site, interesting stuff.

Is it really beneficial to have a muscle biopsy? I mean, would it give me more information about my body and i could make some adjustments to how i train in order to produce the greatest results? Has anyone here had a muscle biopsy?

Yeah take a chunk out of your bicep to examine...then you'll know how to train better to fill the hole in.

Im pretty sure biopsies are only used to check for irregularities..At least thats what we do with them at work.

it will tell you what percentage of type I to type II fibers you have in your body. it is not beneficial because you can't change them. If you are higher in the type I fibers then so be it. All the weight training in the world is not going to make you lift like a powerlifter or put on size like a bodybuilder. You would have to just make do with what you genetically have and be the best you can. You could go and be a great marathon runner though.

In the 60s and 70s the Russians gave biopsies to young children around the ages of 7 or 8. When it was determined which fiber types they were more dominant in they were sent to train for specific sports. Type I dominat to things like distance running and distance swiming. Type II dominant towards things like weightlifting, wrestling, and sprinting.
