The "V" shape

I don't know much about this area this is why i'm going to ask some more experienced guys about this.

Is there any certain exercises that would get you this shape or does it just appear overtime after Deadlifts, benchpressing etc... . Do you think most of it is genetic?

What are your views on this.

I think most of it is genetic. Personally, I can't get below a 34" waist because of where my hips are placed. Consequently, I always look "blocky" no matter how low I get my bf%.

I think it'll come with a good frame with a reasonable amount of mass on but with little body fat. A wide back and thick thighs will help create the illusion of the V.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I think legs quads, hams, and shoulders determine how your body looks with chest a close second.Lats do help but not a huge amount.Spinal erectors well you cant really see them. Arms basically don't do much in my opinion but that's no reason to neglect them. Lets face it diamond calfs are sexy but don't do much for the V.

I kinda have the same thing, my hips are naturally moderately wide in comparison to my overall body developement, though I'm sure I can get down to a 31-32 if I really want to... I think I was at 33 or so when I started my cut... Not sure now. As an ecto, is seems the body wants to develope in sort of a "column" if that makes sense.

The best thing you can do for the "V-Shape" is develope your shoulders and lats, but of course don't neglect other body "parts" as well.

Me too. I think about 33-34 is the lowest my waist could get. I have been around 8% body fat before, and my waist was no smaller than that. I might be able to hit 32-33 if I was competition level body fat, but I never would do that.

The v-shape is largely determined by the your delts and lats, IMO. And not having overdeveloped traps. My v-taper has always been very good, and I've always been careful about not overdoing direct trap work, etc.

Heh, I used to do shrugs a ton, but my traps seem to grow easily from deads and farmer's walks etc.

Yeah, that helps. Some people are always going to have a better taper than others due to their bone structure though.

Having the characteristics of v-shape with nice traps is more aesthetically appealing than not having traps.

it's "possible". Unusually large traps are the first sign that someone is using steroids i think. That guy's traps are huge, but you could probably achieve similar size with very strict dieting and dedication. It would take quite awhile though.

Steroids aren't fair(coming from a puny bastard ). I'm no expert or anything so i dont debate whether or not they are good/bad. I just wonder what the point is.....getting large muscles would be cool but why take any "possible" unnessesary risk. Oh well i'll try to see where proper diet and consistancy will bring me !

I'm going to say possible, but not likely. It would also take an incredible amount of dedication, and many years.

I agree with this.

Now when it comes to underdevloped traps, IMO, that flat out just doesn't look right. But overdeveloped traps take away from the v-taper and almost give a no-neck football player look, instead of a wider, broader, bodybuilder look. Just my $.02.

I've never heard of the v-shape. I've heard of the x-shape or frame. Where you have big legs and a small waist and then big chest and lats. But what is the v-shape? Is it just the upper body or the lower and upper body?
