Stick With Westside or Switch to P/RR/S?

Obviously everyone on this forum swears by P/RR/S, and I don't doubt its effectiveness. But Westside is so tried and true, and my progress on it has always been nothing shot of awesome. Its just that part of me anymore is a little tired of all the lower back stress all of the time. In reality its just lower back work constantly, all the time.

Chances are I'm never going to do a powerlifting meet, or a bodybuilding competition. So my training is strictly as a hobby, and strictly for fun.

I've been off an on Westside for about 3 months now. Never actually taken a real break from it, though. And the P/RR/S workouts look a lot more fun lately than my Westside workouts.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I like Westside better.

What's Westside training?

Oh, I really like the P/RR/S way of training.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Westside is more strength oriented, and P/RR/S is more oriented for hypertrophy, the whole point of the latter is to provide changing stimulation to avoid adapation to increase muscle mass.

I'm doing an Upper/Lower split. That could be an option for you.....

Me too, but it's pretty similar to Westside in a lot of ways, just different rep schemes mostly.

Since you do well on Westside, I think that should be the majority of your workouts. When you start to feel stale, switch to P/RR/S for a cycle or two, and then go back to Westside.

Since I am the creator of PRRS I figured I would chime in...

Listen, if Westside has been providing the results that you are looking for, than why switch? Ever hear the saying, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke."

However, if you are mentally getting bored, or if you are starting to feel some overuse injuries coming about, then make a switch for a little while and go back to Westside. Maybe you will find PRRS to be superior for you, or maybe you won't, but if you don't try, you will never know.

But like I said at first, if Westside is doing for you exactly what you want, then maybe you just need a week off from the gym, and then you can hop right back to where you were.

Wow, not that I didn't respect you before, but my level of respect for you just went up after that statement. It's great to see that you truly do want to help people, and not just cram your program down their throat. I can't say the same for a lot of people; I'm definitely more biased than that myself. You're a class act.

As a side note, I have used P-RR-S before. I did gain an appreciable amount of mass and strength on the program. However, conjugate periodization seems to work better for myself as well; it works quite well for mass gains too if I eat enough. Nonetheless, P-RR-S was certainly an effective and fun program. It didn't really get boring because it felt like I was always doing something different, but the fact that I repeated workouts every 3 weeks made progress trackable. I say give it a shot. I'm pretty damned sure you'll enjoy it and make gains.

I think you should give something else a try until you find something that agrees with your back. IMO I would drop the westside and try GO-PROS training if your experiencing back problems. Or you can drop by my forum and I'll CRAM the IRON MAN training down your thoat!! J/K Give the P/RR/S a try...

Why settle for being a man when you can be an "IRONMAN".

Mike needs to be in the gym more often to try the IRON MAN style training. I think he made a good decision.
