Front raise and lateral raise

In light of a previous question regarding upright rows and DB work on the shoulders, what would be recommended in this situation.

On shoulder day, I start off of course with the military press. I normally do two other shoulder movements, but which would be most beneficial?

I have bounced back and forth between DB side laterals and cable laterals, and recently I just stopped doing front DB raises.

Is one movement, that is front or side raises, superior to the other? I'd like to keep one of those two movements in my routine (or both if it's recommended). A small note - I do posterior delt and trap work on back day.

Why not cycle both?... I do not think auxillary movements should be staples, just my opinion though.

On a sidenote, replace "someday" with "today" in your sig

Cycle both.... I may do that. I like doing the raises, but it's also because I can't really find other exercises for shoulders. I used to do upright rows, but I feel it more in my traps that my shoulders, and I do traps on a different day.

Would you recommend another movement on shoulder day?
I do military press on shoulder day. Haha, that's about all I have on shoulder day. I know a bunch of shoulder exercises, but as to which shoulder exercises are the BEST I'm clueless on.

Hahaha, I should change that in the signiture.... it's a quote I took from a poster in my room, with a child sitting on a squat box (box squat platform) in front of a squat rack loaded with 5 plates.... its a cool pic

Why do either. Just stick with all overhead presses, pullups and rows and everything will come together.

You think so? I have been contemplating just dropping my shoulder day, but I have had this split for years now, or at least something very comparable to it.

As of now, I have a 4 day split, with a leg day included. I love to get into the gym, and even though I plan on picking up cardio again real soon, only three days in the gym seems so distant than what I'm used to.

Anybody else agree with dropping to a 3 day split? Drop into the good old "push/pull" split with a leg day?

I agree. Not to mention, I generally think adding in additional isolation work for the anterior delts is a bad idea. This is especially true if you follow a typical body part split, which usually includes a poor ratio of pressing to pulling movements. Most people have overdeveloped anterior delts relatively speaking, and you only exacerbate the problem by trying to pump of the volume for movements in which they are a prime mover.

Come to think of it, I fucking hate all the damn raises.

I incorporate them cuz then I am lost in finding out what to do next. Also, someone will look at my journal and say "too many presses."

If you dont WANT to do rear, lateral, front raises, then what?

Then don't do them. Sometimes I do some face pulls for my rear delts and other external rotators; I might also do some scarecrows. That's about it in terms of "isolation" shoulder work though.

On a push day, would you think doing 1 exercise of standing military barbell press followed by an exercise of seated overhead DB press is too much pressing?

example:
flat barbell bench
standing barbell military
flat db fly
seated db overhead press
skull crushers

Not at all. Each week I perform 2 horizontal and 2 vertical pressing movements. They are spread out over 2 days, but nonetheless.
