Brachialis

Are these "only" hit during Preacher?

Let me describe the perfect date: I take her out to a nice dinner. She looks amazing. Some guy tries to hit on her... now he wants to fight - so I grab him - I throw him into the jukebox! Then the other ninja’s got a knife, he comes at me, we grapple, I turn his knife on him. Blood on the dance floor. She’s scared now. I take her home. I’m holding her in my arms. I reach in for a kiss... I hear something in the leaves, I flip her around, she gets a poison arrow right in her back. She was in on it the whole time... but I knew...

The brachialis is always used during elbow flexion.

The brachioradialis is more active when you are maintaining a neutral grip or pronated grip, but it is always active during elbow flexion as well.

The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Actually, increase the angle on preachers and you will recruit more brachialis, as this will put the biceps in a weakened position, forcing the brachialis to work harder.

Best movements for brachialis recruitment are:

-90 degree preacher curls
-Seated or lying overhead cable curls
-Hammer curls
-Reverse Curls

That's why if I have clients do curls, which is rarely, a lot of times I have them do drag curls or incline curls so that the short head gets that better length-tension relationship. I didn't think of that in the context of making the brachialis work harder though; good call.
