I like to have partners but make it clear we gotta be serious and not pussy it out in the workout. If they can't be serious when the lifting starts they can still be like a friend but not a partner/spotter. My mom can and does spot me on bench i just need her to take 5-10 pounds off the bar then i can push that bar up. Also like was said before you should have the same workout and goals to make it easier.

I like the "Me vs. the world" attitude to help with my motivation. My fiance always wants to workout together but...

#1 Our schedules conflict...when I am ready to workout..I AM READY TO WORK OUT! If I wait for her I lose my "pump, adreniline, readiness to workout...whatever". When my body is ready to lift, it is ready to lift...I don't know how to explain it.

#2 When ever I am lifting and she is around me, I just start laughing for no reason. Or maybe it's because she is making funny looks as I am trying to lift then I laugh. BUT it pisses me off because I just had a crappy workout.

It's all good now, cuz she knows that when I am lifting, I have to lift by myself. She knows to stay away...unless it is cardio time

Bottom line...I LOVE working out by myself. No distractions. Crank the Metallica...In Flames..."eye of the tiger"..oops..I mean...uh nevermind
