Is is better to isolate body parts?
I am new to this and I was just wondering if its better to separate body sections into different days or just work the upper body on some days and the lower on others, what is the best way to see results?

Actually, if you're new to this I recommend full body routines because of the conditioning benefits and the fact that the volume per session is pretty low. There's not need to do 10 sets of "chest" work in one sitting if you're new to resistance training.

So make progress and then switch to something less effective?

Isolation isn't effective, relative to any of your other options...so why switch to it? |

Because that's what the magazines say. And if you're juicing you can handle enough volume/frequency to make good progress, even with isolation...which is why the magazines say it, the pros can do it.

Splits aren't ineffective. It's a great way to ramp up volume, but it should never be done at the exclusion of working out muscles at a higher frequency during a significant portion of your training. If you really enjoy split routines so much then do one. Just make sure you try to balance your routine to some degree instead of becoming a winged scapula sporting, kyphosis bearing dumbshit with bigger arms than you have shoulders who whines about low back pain all day. Also, don't be afraid to try something different. Just because Johnny Juicealot at the local Bally's is big and uses a split routine doesn't make it optimal. |
