At 10 years old I would keep him away from weights for a couple years yet, have him work on stuff like push ups, pull ups, sit ups etc.
If your going to do weights anyway then at least use a VERY light weight and keep the reps up at 12-15 amd MAKE SURE HE'S USING THE BEST FORM!!!
Most important thing for him at that age is to eat right and eat ALOT!!
