workout partner
Anyone have one? I dont, never have, but I think its time I get one. Anyone interested? Seriously, I asked my guy friend and he was hesitant, only because he said that we obvisoulsy have different agendas and he cant be changing the plates every set. HOW RUDE? I am trying to stay motivated, I am but I dont want to hire a personal trainer, I want a workout buddy, only for 2 days a week. IF only my lazy ass friends were interested . . had to VENT! thanks!

I have always trained by myself. A partner would def. be nice sometimes though. My friend always tells me he is going to accompany me but he has literally ditched me like 15 times. I think it's all good though.

I've gone through about 4 training partners over about 3 years. They all quite after 3-4 months and I didn't.
It's good if you can, but it's hard to find someone as committed and with the same goals/schedule as you. |

I love it when a plan comes together.

Any guy you get will inevitably fall in love with you, then try and make straight for your pants...
You need a serious female partner (Who trains like a guy) |

Hi Anna! I haven't had a training partner in several years now..I know what I want/need to do when I get into the gym, and the partner may have other ideas...as said by someone prevously, if I need a spot, I will grab a guy I think I could trust to spot me. |

not always the partner is a good thing ..he may be lazy or talk too much.....i've been training for 7 months without a partner or a trainer or anything just teaching my self and asking any one for help (as a spotter) ...but ofcourse it's much harder as he may ruin ur set but try to get used for working out alone ....as even if u had a partner he might leave u at any time................ |

A good partner is hard to come by. I rarely come across someone that shares a similar schedule and similar goals. I'd be happy to come to the gym and cheer you on though. Just make sure you're wearing spandex and you squat every session I'm there.

training partners can't hang with me...they quit. The only way I would want one now is if they lifted the same weight i did so we could take turns without changing plates.

I used to have a great training partner. My roomate from last year. It kept us both motivated because we were pretty similar in strength and goals at the time. He made me be consitent and I made him be consistent. It was awesome, we never slacked. He ended up transfering out the next year so it sucks, hopefully I can come across someone like that again.

I trained, until very recently, on and off with a group of guys. We all have varying job demands, so training schedules tend to be very fluid. Bout three days a week, a pair of guys who are friends would work out at the same time, and we fell into a pattern of working out together. Other days, they hit the gym at 4:30am, whereas I might be training with an Oly guy at noon. On the weekends, I meet up -with another pair (brothers). Evenings varied, depending on who was working late. My schedule tends to feature travel and work outdoors, so I don't have a choice, gots to be flexible or training suffers.
The smooth synergy was surprising (lasting more than two years)..a floating workout team. Very much preferred to working out alone. Don't think this occurs in larger and more impersonal gym settings, but in the smaller ones - yeah, it happens. |

ok everyone i am pleased to annouce that i found a gym partner!!! i am very excited, i have worked with him for one solid week and i feel great!! last week we didnt train because he was sick but tues we are starting again. he competes so he is really pushing me. he usually trains with another guy too. so the 3 of us really get after it. he is impressed that i can lift so much, legs, shoulders and arms are my fave to workout with him.

Hey thats great news - hope it works well!
I have had the same training partner for 18 months (since we started) and we both seem to progress at the same speed and use exactly the same weight. He is 3" taller and 3 stone (45lbs) heavier than I am but he does seem to think that overall size shouldn't make you stronger (I tend to disagree - anyone with me?) In any event - it really helps with keeping motivated and having someone check your form. Last edited by JonnyStead : 06-10-2006 at 10:41 AM. Reason: missed a bit! |

sometimes when i go with my friends. all they/he does/do is talk about clothing brands (like what females) or about jobs. They distract me so much that I actually want to be working alone. But sometimes when im alone, when i try new exercises i get a little nervous of people saying or laughing at me if i do it wrong..

Don't worry about what you think others think about you...cases are..they aren't. (nobody really cares what you are doing...unless you are doing something so absurd that you are drawing attention to yourself.)
If you don't know how to do an exercise...ask somebody...grab a PT or someone that knows what they are doing. Watch other people...se what they are doing...you can get an idea if they are doing something right or wrong, just by watching their form. |
