What's good for the lower back??

What do you guys do for strengthening the lower back? There's one machine at my gym where you sit with your back on a pad and do kind of a reverse sit up. It doesn't really feel like it's working anything though. Just wondering if anyone else had anything they do that works!

    Thanks!

Deadlifts, stiff-legged deadlifts, supermans, and hyperextensions.

"Deadlifts, stiff-legged deadlifts, supermans, and hyperextensions."

Yes those are all excellent movements but also stablization and flexibility exercises like planks and neck bridges (both front and back).

Sweet thanks! Could you explain the hyperextensions and supermans?

    Thanks!

    The superman:

Lie on the ground, belly down.

Lift both arms and both legs into the air so only your stomach is supporting you. You should feel your lower back contract. Hold this position for 1 minute. rest 30 seconds. Repeat.
    No Milk, no.
Milk is for babies. When you grow up, you have to drink beer.

I love these. I have been pounding away at reverse hyperextensions a lot lately. I'm really surprised at how often clients can't even do them with just their bodyweight!
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
