    Weighted Dips

Is there anyone on this site besides a new member who just posted in Iron Man forum that can do heavy ass weighted dips.

The new poster claims he does 4-45 lb plates hanging from him on weighted dips for reps. That's 180 lbs sports fans

Can anyone else get that close.

I know TheCurse can use a good amount, as well as MJH... I can only use 1 45 plate for 8 reps.

Do you know how heavy the guy is, Tough? Then we could figure out the % BW he is lifting.

Also, does he do them wide, narrow, lean forward. I bet his form sucks with weight like that.

Look at the bottom under Marvin's Best Lifts Look at dips. Wow.

I could do 2 plates for a few reps. I've done 70 pounds held between my feet for multiple sets of 8 with 60s rest intervals. If I regularly trained dips I'm sure I could do more, and it does make the movement easier if the weight is supported by the belt as opposed to me holding it in my feet.

Dips are a strange excercise for me. I can dangle a plate from my waist and get three reps, and then dangle nothing and only get like six. It must be my form.

    Great excercise though.

When I weighed about 265 I was able to do them for reps with three 45 lbs plates. However, I hate that exercise and now rarely do them.

Dips, one of the few excercises i can do well, dont know if i could do 180lbs, but the heaviest dumbell in my gym is 120lbs and i could do that reasonably comfortable for my 5-8 rep set.

Never did them much, when I was about 215-220 in my late teens I used 50-60lbs for dips, but I had a few friends who power lifted who used up to 100lbs for them.

Ive used up to 120 pound dumbells for up to 4-5 reps.... Im around 245lbs myself.

Probably has a lot to do with your bodys mechanics, some being at a more advantageous position naturally.

I sometimes use a 50lb plate and can do 3 sets of 20 quite easily but have never gone any heavier...

do them with no weight and hold the bars with strong grip, spread ur elbows lean forward (a little bit) go down as much as u can,do 3-4 sets every cycle....add weight gradually when u could do many reps easily. [i had just the same problem as u]

I thought you weren't supposed to spread your elbows, but to keep them near your body?

what exercise, dips , nope just hold the bar tightly...with a strong grip and lower ur self as u can feel the stretch , then push ur self to the top and repeat......it's all the same but if u want to targey the chest as much as u can try to spread ur elbows outside and lean a little bit with ur upper body to the fornt , if u want to target the tricceps as much as u can make ur elbows inside and don't go to the end of the motion........

The lifting isnt that hard, its just the going down. My arms are straight and holding the bar making it extremely hard for me to bring myself down and when i try to lean a little forward i almost fall lol.

Hmm.. I can do 3 plates and rep them. Well kinda..

    4sets of 6 reps..3 plates.

I did them a while back, maybe 1 or 2 months ago for a chest workout mostly. Its in my journal somewhere. Fucking loved it. But no I didnt keep the elbows tucked cuz I wanted to see how much the chest would get worked. Well.....it worked.

I still haven't tried weighted dips. All I know is i've hit 55 dips before. Keep in mind i'm pretty light too, if would be a whole different ballgame if I was weighing in at 200+lbs.

it's normal...when i first began to do pullups i couldn't even do one full rep i used to jump a litle from the floor, and push with my legs,, same with any body weight exercises by the time it'll be so easy for u but do them regularly..and try ur best, and u'll get used to them......
