    glutes!

The glutes are like delts of the lower body (and the quads are the triceps and hamstrings, biceps). Squats and deadlifts are like the shoulder presses of the lower body and since shoulder presses work the delts, then shouldnt the target of the squat and dl be the glutes?

if this is a retarded question tell me?

yes, the glutes play a big role in both of those lifts due to the amount of hip extension needed to get out of the hole.

Your train of thought is an interesting one, but the conclusion that you arrived at is somewhat accurate. A deep squat is going to require a lot of gluteal stimulation to get the weight up. PL style squats make better use of the glutes, and the glutes are also an important stabilizer in the squat. Deadlifts use the glutes heavily, particularly at the lockout.

The glutes are an extremely strong hip extensor, so virtually all compound lower body movements use the glutes to a large degree, assuming they aren't inhibited due to a sedentary lifestyle and/or improper firing patterns.

That is some very logical thinking. I myself don't get the glutes as much in squats but deadlifts and lunges will make me limp and get pain from sitting down
