    Need workout help

I will be attending a military training school in a few weeks and they run alot...a awful lot. The issue is that I don't like to run alot in fear of losing my mass and muscle size. I could stand to cut up a bit, but I am no way fat or outta shape. I will just have to suck up the running part though..My question to you all is what type of program would be best to allow me to continue to maintain muscle size and not lose strength due to all this extra cardio. Is there one that is tailored best for it? Should I increase my protein intake as well? Please advise..

I would increase my protein intake and continue to do resistance training. You shouldn't loose any size. I cycle about 150km a week and have no problem gain muscle and strength when I train at the gym.

You will lose size, it's inevitable. If you go from training predominantly for strength and muscle to the polar opposite (endurance) your bodies physiology will adjust.

It is impossible to be train for optimal endurance or optimal muscle without one of the other suffer.

That said, improve your nutrition, keep your workout volume LOW and intense.

Yeah, you may very well lose size. It depends on how much you plan on performing aerobic endurance exercise though. I can't give you a definitive threshold on exactly how much it will take for you to reverse you strength and size gains, but there is such a threshold.

As DD said, lift with intensity. By intensity, I mean lift heavy. Your body won't keep your muscle mass around if you don't use it.

I really don't plan on doing any...but the military instructors say otherwise. I can't stand the new fitness standards in the military. They want you to have the thin/lean look. I think it sucks and it looks weak and frail in my opinion.

Anyhoo, thanks for the responses, and I will continue to push heavy and suck down protien shakes.

they are trying to prepare you for war.....not a day at the beach! When it comes time for battle no one cares if you are big and ripped. All they care about is that if need be, you can withstand hell on earth type of conditions.

I agree with Donuts and Pimp. I would train twice a week, low volume and high intensity and just try to maintain strength as much as possible. Increasing caloric intake will help also.

why didn't you get out after 19 years? Especially since it sounds like you are a little burned out in being there?

Nah, on a different subject. I love the Air Force, it has been good to me. To tell you the truth, I went in right after High School, so I know nothing else. They just recently started making the fitness shit mandatory for us a while back. I guess they saw too many fat fucks in here, I don't know. I guess I am irritated of the fact that it actually had to be made mandatory for people to get serious about the whole thing. I mean it really ticks me off to see people surface in the gym after a holiday knowing damn well that they have never been...they try to lose the weight in a whim. I also hate seeing a sloppy ass person in uniform, or a uniform so baggy on them that they look like a human pretzel.....fuck, I could go on and on...but anyway. By the way, the gym was closed today for renovations and it was leg day...that is why I am f--king pissed! Hey, Funk...I will continue to train hard and heavy. What protein do you use if any?

Been in he school for 2 weeks now, and I surprised at myself. I am actually getting better at running...what an improvement. I am also continuing to lift hard and heavy, and have maintained size well. It seems as though I am cutting up a bit more as well. I have been drinking so much water here it is ridiculous, my body seems a bit harder now.
