Try to have your average person do anything on one leg for more than a brief moment. They will fall over. I see it with virtually every new client I get or see come into the gym. It's more of an issue if you work a sedentary job, which is everyone in DC. There are different degrees of this problem obviously, but I have seen some really nasty cases. I am actually talking people who have a fucked up gait because of their inhibited glutes.

Also, people can compensate for weak glutes in a variety of ways. Hell, there are elite athletes that have poor mobility and firing patterns, but they have been performing set skills since they were so young that they know how to compensate for their deficiencies very well. That's when injuries happen and new skills are learned poorly.

Indeed. When people think core or stabilizers, they think abs abs abs. The rectus abdominus is only a small part of what constitutes the core. Your glutes are a huge part of your core, and if they aren't working, then you're limiting yourself. Not to mention muscles like the multifidus, quadratus lumborum, and various hip abductors/adductors that your average "bodybuilding guru" couldn't even name.

Shit, I did 135lb Barbell Lunges yesterday, the first time Ive ever did BB lunges and wow was it odd. The first two sets were kinda scary cuz it was that hard to get used to.

Today, my glutes feel like theyve been hit with a baseball bat. Ive NEVER felt so sore there. Not to mention other parts of my torso feel sore. They feel like my abs or obliques, but I know they arent.
