    2 times a day

My regular workout is mon. chest tues. back wed. shoulders thurs. legs fri. arms. That gives each body part a weeks rest with some minor stress on it when I do the secondary muscle groups. I read in M&F that a study was done where the same muscles were worked once in the morining and once at night. The muscles suffered more dammage but healed just as fast. Would this be recomended or not?

This seems like a bad idea. Why do double the work? In my opinion you should scrap the one body part a day routine and go to either a push/pull/leg or 3 day full body program. Why spend more time working out then you have to? You can get more done in a shorter period of time if you train more than one body part a day.

What are your goals? This is the first question that needs to be addressed.
The stickies at the top of the training page of a lot of good info, if you have not read them I suggest you do.

I agree! u might try a combo day like back and biceps or legs and shoulders. you may also try to tke your wednesday off and go on saturday. You will be amazed at the gains you will make. Remember your body grows when it rests not when it works.

I know the body makes gains when it rests but each body part gets 6 days rest. When I do work a body part it stays sore for 3-5 days after I'm done. When I do chest on monday I'm sore untill about thursday or friday.

Bad idea. If there was one way to overtrain this would be it.

Sure you COULD work out twice a day, but theres no way you could do it at anywhere near the level intensity the second time per day as the first.

It can take muscles as long as 8 days or more to fully recover after a good session, just because you stop feeling them ache doesnt mean theyre back to normal.

You must have a lot of time on your hands to be ABLE to train twice a day also!

How come the younger guys are always wanting to train more and the older guys are always telling them to train less? I say, hey, go ahead and train more if it makes you feel good. If you get results even better, but I'll bet you end up here again, looking back and realising that training too often just isn't right.

My honest opinion, the second time that you train you wont be able to perform as good as the first one. Plus the time that you need to have off is a lot, but if it makes you happy go ahead and do it. You know you could also do some sport in the afternoon just to keep away from the sedentary lifestyle if thats what your looking for.

You can workout twice a day if you don't work the same body parts. But the volume has to be real low. Right now I work chest, shoulders, Back width and back thickness on the same day. The are times where I'l work chest and shoulders in the morning and Back width and thickness in the evening. But I on;y do three working sets for ea muscle group.
Chest: might be Incline bench for 3 sets to failure. Shoulders: Military presses for 3 sets to failure. That's it

That's a little bit like pyramiding to me: After you've given the muscles a good effort, you keep on working, but taking some of the stress off. It seems incredibly pointless to me; just give them hell once and be done with it.

Some guy in one of my classes brags about training 3 hours a day and "drinking 5 protein shakes a day" and complains about how he can't grow.

Personally, no. You asked whether it was recommended and the general consensus was that it was not. Like someone else said, you're certainly free to try it, but, theoretically, it probably won't work, and plenty of people have overtrained and gotten poor results from it in the past.

I honestly wouldn't waste my time with it in my training, but if you do try it, let us know how it works out (really).

To honest with you I did try it like 3 months ago when I was unemployed, and the results werent that good, somehow the day after the workout I was extremlly tired and felt like i had no enrgy. The muscle dint grow faster or bigger, than my regular workout, on the contrary my biceps dint seem to be gaining much strenght at all. The rest of the body grew just like my regular rutine, but with a lot of extra work. Remmember you cant ge huge in 2 days, it take time, and dedication and you will see results. Good luck. Btw try it, it might work for you, I know it dint work for me, but that dosent mean it wont for you.

    Take care

Why don't you go the opposite way as well and train just once a week?

Then compare the results, then write a book about it and become rich!

Performing two shorter resistance training sessions in the same day is actually a great idea. However, I would recommend working different muscle groups in each workout. You should be able to get an entire workout for any one major muscle group in 30 minutes or less. The advantage of doing this is the reduction in catabolic hormone release.

Also, I wouldn't workout twice a day 5 days a week; that is insane and unnecessary. In fact, I think lifting 5 days each week is a poor idea in and of itself. 3-4 days is all any natural trainee should need.
