I've started doing a few core twisting exercises to help my punching.
Feet in line, 30lb weight held out front, hips stationary, rotate upper body back and forth 50 reps. Then other variations in natural and goofy fight stances with a weight in each hand. Is this repetitive twisting something that is likely to cause damage to my back/spine? I've had back problems for years (23, soccer goalkeeper did the usual damage) My vertebrae always 'crack' very easily, and they are actually doing it less since ive started doing this, and its only been 3 workouts (300reps each workout). Feeling a bit sore (typical post workout) in my middle back, but its hard to tell if its just muscle or joint as well.
rotary movements are fine with weight or med. ball. just make sure that you are properly stabilized in the lumbar spine and make sure that you are rotating with good posture and movement.
It is basically like saying "are squats okay? is bench press dangerous?"
yes, everything is dangerous if you are not doing it properly.
