what are pullthroughs, do you mean pull overs?
I was wondering if you guys could give me your opinions on pull throughs. Are they safe. Proper form and procedure. Im 17 and weigh 163 pounds 5'9. I question their safety beacuse my PE teacher came up to me while i was doing them and said they were dangorues beacuse of the amount of core strenght needed. I know that just because someone says something it means nothing but could ppl who know alot about strength training and general core stuff (cow, funk, gopro, and many others)would u please help me here.

I think Pull-thru's are fine...they help build some core strength as well. IMO it's one of the safer exercises for developing the posterior chain.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

Pull throughs are a great way to develop the posterior chain without directly loading the trunk. In fact, I use them with clients who have back pain when doing various other exercises and they have yet to spark that pain in anyone I have tried them with.
Tell your PE teacher he is a dumbfuck; why does the need for core strength indicate a dangerous exercise? That pretty much rules out any form of barbell squat, deadlifts, standing overhead lifts, etc.

LOL. I don't think shes seen me dead lifting and squatting yet. But you'll love this when i came to the gym (I was new and inexperienced) i was doing behind the neck pull downs and presses. She came up to me and gave me advice on how to feel it and go down deep behind the neck. Thanks guys for ur time. I was wondering if someone could find some studies or give me some more arguments to use next time i see her. I plan on doing this exercise more.Originally Posted by CowPimp
Unfortunately, I highly doubt any studies have been done on pullthroughs. Ask her to explain why they are so dangerous. If she brings up the need for core strength, then just cockslap her for stupidity.Originally Posted by Brutus_G
