    Things you see......

Doing squats the other day, almost ATF, like just below parallel, as I've come to do them, and on the other side of the gym there's this group of people who looked about 18 or so doing squats under the instruction of an older dude (he looked 40 or 50). They were taking turns and watching each other and listening and supposedly, learning. Unless they were deliberately doing 1/4 squats, which I'd doubt, what I witnessed made me shake my head in disbelief. The older dude had them squatting way more than what I believe they should have been. The first to do a set was a girl aged I'm guessing about 18 of thin build. They put 2 plates on each side of the bar (so 225) and sure enough she was encouraged to squat about 8 inches down and back up. After 8 reps everyone clapped and cheered. One of the guys had 5 plates on each side and did the same thing. I never found out what was going on, but I couldn't understand why someone in a teaching/training role would encourage the use of such heavy weight with innapropriate form.
What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

Is it ever good to squats with a limited ROM with greater weight?

about another group that actually does something

Nothing wrong with 1/4 squats, but 99% of the poeple doing them do it out of ignorance or just are lazy.
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

Sure, it's like a walkout. It's good to get used to having heavier weights on your back to feel more confident with lesser weights using a full ROM. It can also help if your sticking point is high up, but that is incredibly rare. There is a 15 degree carryover too, so if you are doing a partial and only stopping 15 degrees or less from your sticking point you should notice favorable results.

Throwing in 1/4 squats EVERY NOW AND THEN with much heavier weight helped with my full squats.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

Thanks guys. I thought so, but everyone so vehemently attacked them that I wanted to make sure.

Yeah, that's just because so many people use them as their full squats it's ridiculous.

Wait a second you guys. Some trainers who have clients new to an exercise might have them using real light weight at first going ATG and then later at a different time have them doing partials just to get use to heavier weight. Like the poster said there were a lot of people there, so we have no idea what the real reason was.

What's next? DOMS, the voice of racial tolerance?

You're right, it's a possibility. I'm leaning toward the fucking idiot scenario though.

Well I'm not saying that I'm not leaning that way also, but we will never know.
