I have a question for everybody here as I'm encountered a serious problem in my training and I need some help overcoming it. I have a MAJOR strength difference between the grip in my hands. My right hand (i'm right handed) is much stronger than my left. It is really starting to hinder my training especially when it comes to shoulders (dumbell shrugs) and bicepts (seated or standing dumbell curls). I cannot keep my grip on the dumbells through the entire set with my left hand. When I first started, it wasnt too much of an issue but now that I'm starting to move some heavier poundage, this has become a seious handicap in my training. Has anybody here had the same problem? If so, what did you do to overcome it?
I think if you just keep at it and don't use straps as a crutch, your grip strength will catch up. I used to have this problem too and didn't do anything in particular to strengthen my grip, it just came naturally as I continued to lift.
I still have issues when I do barbell shrugs. The strange thing is, I am right handed but my left hand is stronger. I can't figure that one out.

Even stranger for me. My left arm is bigger and stronger when it comes to everything except for grip; my grip is stronger on my right hand.
Over time they will even out somewhat. Just throw in some dedicated grip work a couple sessions each week. I've been doing that for some time now and it has helped tremendously.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Yeah I've been doing that every so often but I'm really going to have to get serious about it.

Farmer's walks and towel chinups have done well for me. I went from practically dropping 425 out of my hands and struggling to hold on to 405 to locking out a solid 445 and holding it there without issue in 3-4 months. I think that's pretty damned good.

The real problem occurs when you train grip regularly and you still have the problem. This happened to me and it was a pain in the butt. But I got out of it (or so I think) and I'll eventually surpass my previous best at a lower body weight. It'll happen soon. I can feel it in my skin...
Anyways, I basically switched my grip to double overhand and added a couple more grip exercises.
Also, I've found that car pulling using a 2" tow strap and your bare hands is great for training grip.
Push yourself. Enjoy yourself. Be yourself.
