    Question about drop sets

I read an article in Mens Fitness saying that doing drop sets will get you toned and cut you up much faster than other lifting programs and I was wondering what the results would be like if I chose to adopt this method of training. I have a few extra pounds on me so do you recommend this for beginners? I've read else where that mixing drop sets with regualr sets would be the best way to go. Basically I would like to lose a little weight and get lean and defined. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Congrats on finding this board! The first thing I'll tell you is don't believe an article you read in these rags. Some may be true but for the average Joe there's no way for you to know.

If you are looking to drop some lbs then you need to read the stickies in the diet section. You will learn a lot here if you're willing to put the time in.

Dropsets should not be used by beginners. You just need to train hard in the gym, as well as focus on proper diet and the inclusion of some cardio work in your program.

Being more defined is a function of lower body fat. Doing dropsets is not going to cause spot reduction of fat stores.

Also, as Gopro said, dropsets are an advanced technique and has no place in a beginner's routine.
