another thread about grip and deadlifts

today i was deadlifting and the bar kept slipping out of my hands. i don't think it was so much as my lack of grip as it was lack of friction between my hands and the bar, because it was a weight that my grip strength could usually handle. i don't have any chalk, so i rubbed my hands against my soles to get some dust, but it still didn't work. the fact that the gym was real hot, cause me to sweat didn't help either.

i normally don't use lifting gloves, but would they help with the friction problem? also, the gloves that come along with wristwraps, can those wraps be used as straps for lifting?

i looked into lifting chalk, but it looked pretty expensive =(.

    any suggestions?

Buy some gloves for like, £6 ($10?).

Theres nothing wrong with using gloves or straps. Ive always used gloves for pretty much everything, i dont like continually peeling skin off my hands, and gloves arent exactly expensive.

Never used straps, but if its a weight you could usually handle, then you dont need straps. Just go with the gloves.

I have never used gloves or straps for lifting because I want my grip to strengthen. I haven't ruled out chalk though. If sweaty hands are a problem, just bring a small towel to wipe them with.

believe me, i've tried wiping them. the bar was just really slippery today for some reason.

I have trouble holding on to 315 for all my reps, the best thing is just do static holds and don't move the DL weight up over what you can hold.

Yeah, just keep some gloves with you in case you're sweating bullets. No biggie.

Personally, I refuse to use either, but if you're doing this for aesthetic reasons then I don't see why it matters. I would still work on your grip strength concurrently, because strength can make up for a decreased coefficient of friction, but you don't have to because I think it's a good idea.

Me on the other hand like grips when doing heavier weights. If its a weight I know I can handle without straps I dont use them. But if its a weight that I struggle with my grip I use them for the simple reason, its a back exercise and thats what I am focusing on at this particular time, not my grip. I dont want to have to think about my grip when trying to bang out my last few reps. Just my 2 cents.
