The origin is the Clavicular head-medial half clavicle, and the insertion is lateral lip of bicipital groove of humerus and anterior lip of deltoid tuberosity....so there is no sternal head really.Originally Posted by mike456
I was just looking at bb incline bench press on exrx.net, and it says that this exercise does not work the sternal head at all, but only the clavicular head- is this true?
The reason I ask is because I recently dropped flat bench from my routine for Incline Bench, I hate flat bench for some reason, but I just love incline bench

Foreman-in addition to what you just posted in another thread I saw you said that Incline Bench hits the upper chest 1% to 2% more, so im guessing you think Incline Bench sucks ass compared to Flat Bench, right?
well since I now know this, I will be adding flat bench in my push routine again, do you think I should drop incline bench since I will be doing flat bench?
I like incline the most of all presses but only because it does not hurt my shoulders.

You definitely hit both heads when you do any kind of bench press.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

i do both flat and incline, no need to do just 1
Yeah, I do both too. I found though that about 6 months ago ( when I started lifting seriously again after football ) that my incline was relatively weak. My incline has improved considerably ( 70 lbs ), and this I think is what helped my flat bench improve so much. I wouldn't recommend just doing incline if you're going to compete in lifting competitions etc though.
To many pros now days are dropping bench from their routines because they complain about their shoulders. But what people dont realize is yes pro's are bigger these days, but their chest's arent what they used to be. you see BB's running around with moster arms, legs, and back. And terrible chest.
