...noticing a change...anyone have a comment?

..just recently, this past month, I've started taking my weights a bit more seriously. I've upped the diet, increasing protein and calorie intake and drinking at least.... at least two litres of water a day.

..if I'm honest I can already see some change, my lifts are feeling stronger, my muscle is looking fuller - we're not taking huge here, but there's a difference - and my abs are still visible.... if you catch them in the right light, with your eye slightly squinted.....

but one thing I've really noticed, maybe you guys might find this too...

I seem to be constantly eating and constantly taking a p*ss every half hour. Eating the amount of protein that's recommended is hard work, your diet - or mine at least - seems to be getting very samey. some of you big guys must be just so focused..... with a passion... and that takes as much energy as the training it's self.

I've ended up looking at meals....."that's 30g of protein, 9g fat, 350 calories and so on...", no longer is it, " ummm, that looks tasty, I'll have some of that..."

....am I losing it or is this normal.....

.......always question authority......

It's normal, no one likes eating the same things every day, it's human nature to want to eat what we want, not what we think we have to have. For me personally, me dieting leads me to an urge to eat complete and utter garbage, you know, the stuff that tastes really good.... but.... also has a nice 29000 grams of fat, 4500 carbs, 99000 calories total, lol. Fake numbers, but you get the point. I think you'll be ok. IMO that is the reason we have cheat days, so we can eat something that is different, that you want to eat, although it might not necessarily (spelling?) be good for you. Just stick with it, with a good diet and some dedication, you will make gains, like you said. But a cheat day here and there wont hurt anything. <- I also realize saying that may be untrue for some people, but if you don't gain 20 pounds from eating some french fries, I think you'll be ok.

Also I forgot to mention, on your "cheat days," try and keep it reasonable and avoid the whole binge eating scene. Good luck.

I definitely pee a lot. I drink about a gallon of water each day. Your body adjusts somewhat though, and you will have to pee less. If you are trying to gain weight, you will probably find yourself pooping more often too. It's all part of the game.

I eat the same things most days of the week. On the weekends I follow my mean plan, but if I go out with friends I allow some freedom. To me, food is fuel. I only turn it into a pleasure at certain junctions. If my mom invites me over for dinner, I don't tell her that I can't eat this or that, I just go with it. Dr. John Berardi espouses a 90% adherance rule. So, throughout the week I usually eat about 55-60 meals. If I cheat on 5-6 of those meals, then my diet should be consistent enough that I can make alterations and notice a difference. However, for most of my cheats, I try to be reasonable with concern to portion size and such so that I'm not replacing a 500 calorie meal with a 2500 calorie meal or anything that drastic.

It takes serious dedication to stay healthy and achieve the results you want. If you want to see an example of what I eat, check out my journal. I just posted my current eating plan in there.

What a suprise, hemp cereal and hempseed oil. Cultivate that yourself?

Haha!

On a serious note, more people should look into it. It's a great source of vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and plant-based complete protein. I think it tastes good too. Before I was even on a health kick, I would eat the seeds out of any crappy pot that we being broken up, hehe.

I like Berardi's "90% clean" rule. I try to stick to that, but I definitely don't beat myself up if it's more like 80% clean.

Yeah, I've found it to be a good rule too. I'm sure as I get older I will have to tighten up a bit, but I can get loose for the time being, especially while bulking. Hehe.

It also helps if you conciously make an effort to have your cheat meals closely mimic the total caloric intake of the meals they are replacing.

I think the diet does become quite consuming (get it? - sorry) anyway - I'm the same - i tend to look at food now as nutrition first and taste later but I still struggle with some of it!

The great thing about this weight training lark is that is does cause a step change in your life in the right direction and if you look at the state of a lot of people walking around these days - alot more people could do with giving it a try!
