Dips at home...

Hi

I am and advocate of weighted pull ups, dips or weighted abs and I was wondering what do you guys think about using a backpack for weighted dips.

I have a pretty good set up at home and besides my bench,DB and BB I have a pull up bar and a set up for dips.
For a while I am gonna work out at home after 5 years of membership at the local Gym.
Question:

Could the use of a backpack have a bad impact on my back spine ?
How deep do you go?
How do you work your chest using dips? Do you lean forward ?

I love weighted dips!!!!!!

IMO its one of the best upper body exercises you can do.

I don’t know if a pack would work well or not. If your talking about putting allot of weight in it the pack may rip or a buckle may break. But you could purchase a belt for weighted dips and chins. They aren’t that expensive.

Go as deep as you can without joint pain. It’s like any other movement; go for a full ROM.

To place more stress on the pecs, stay over the top. You have to round your upper back so you are pressing away from the body. Keeping the torso vertical will place almost all the stress on the shoulders and tris.

Good Luck, Train Hard

To refuse to learn anything that could prove beneficial to yourself is a working definition of stupid!

High-intensity training is going all-out, not almost all out. It is taking one set to one's absolute limit, not almost to the limit. It is using whatever equipment’s available. It is not the words of two or three men, but a commitment to work as hard as possible while in the gym without socializing, resting excessively between sets, or falling prey to the 'this isn't going to work so I'll copy the star' attitude"

Dips Rock!
I simply have a piece of nylon strap like you
might find on a backpack tied around my
waist with a small chain and an S-hook.
All stuff found around my basement.
If I were gonna try a backpack, I'd want
it hanging in front of me somehow.
Seems doable to me.
Moving to my basement was the best move I
ever made..............
As far as depth I go to parallel upper arms
and no deeper.....lean forward to FEEL it in
my upper chest.
Every few months I use dips as my main
chest movement for a few weeks instead
of flat bench........Doesn't seem to increase
my press pounds but I don't go down either.
The difference is in the way my pecs feel
and look so much fuller...
Now as summer approachs I start alot
of supersets and 3 x3's.........
20 rep squat with 70% right into BW dips x10
right into wide grip chins x10.Friggin brutal!

I love dips, I just want to make it more harder,so i might use the backback and just put it on my front. I usually do them after a couple of sets of kickbacks or the overhead dumbell move(forgot what the name of it is). I know its working when my arms start to wobble insanely

I'm a big fan of dips and chins ....think your pack idea is sound but I would use it in front .....I've got a belt and chain now but have used a carpenter's pouch with a few plates and even the dog's leash around my waist with the plates in the choke chain before.....

3rd that idea of using the back pack in front. This should make leaning forward slightly easier which should increase the amount of pec you can use in the movement. Plus if the backpack did break which I think is unlikely. Then the weight will fall on the floor instead of on the back of your legs.

I am a big fan of weighted dips, put the belt on with a 45 around my waist and I'm ready to go.

I love dips but I agree with some of the other post. I would prefer to have the strap around my waist with the weighs attached as opposed to wearing a back back. for no other reason than the backpack could slip causing severe injury to the shoulder region. And believe me, shoulder injuries are no fun at all.
