6 would be the most that I would do for tris. Anything more just seems like to many. Now not saying you can't do more sets, but why would you since every pushing movement you do works on your tris.
howmany sets do you do for triceps? i only do 3sets once a week for them and i do dips. is 5-6 sets for triceps too much? because i was going to also do close grip benchpress

5-6 sets is reasonable I think.

I agree. But if the triceps are lagging behind, find an exercise that doesn't bother your elbow. Start off with a light weight so you can get 30 reps. Then everytime that exercise rolls around add 1-5 lbs and lower the weight. Continue until your getting 8 reps. this wioll do it.Originally Posted by CowPimp
If my tris are lagging I simply set aside a day or 2 a week and just do tris. For anywhere from 5-6 sets. but can't baby em, hit em real hard.
you do alot more for the tris then you think.

I do 3 sets of isolation work, if any at all.
Just thinking about this.
Why do most people use isolation for the arms more than any other muscle.
You will see triceps extensions/biceps curls a hell of alot more than DB Flys, Leg Curls, Reverse Flys, Leg Extensions.
I also do this, like this:
Flat Bench
Incline Bench
Overhead Press
Dips
Triceps Extension
Most peoples push day looks like that, why???
Why not front raises, or db flys they isolate a bigger muscle then the tris so why do extensions?
That is it I am never doing an arm isolation movement from now on.
Triceps get their own day for me. I do 9 sets if they consist of less than 12 reps. 3 per head.(lateral, medial, and long)
First set is usually warmup
Every couple of weeks I like to reduce the weight and do one set of 20's , 30's or sometimes 50's per head.
On the flip side I like to add weight and do 2 sets of 6-10 on compound tricep exercises ever couple of months.
Some weeks I do nothing for triceps, I just allow chest and shoulder days to do the work for me.
Change keeps me entertained and it seems to work.
Because people have this ridiculous notion that your arms should be disproportionately big compared to the rest of your body. That way they can get the most attention with the least amount of work.Originally Posted by mike456

i save one day a week just for triceps.
3 sets of 30 reps on push downs
2 x 10 skull crushers
2 x 12 cable pull down
2 x 15 seated dips
also some chin-ups in between
some may think its alot but ive put a solid 2 inches on my arms since christmas. And my arms are still proportional to the rest of me.
I know most experts would say than arm isolation exercises arent important. But my current training schedule has an arm day of its own.
3 sets of 3 exercises for both the biceps and the triceps. But I will be changing this when i start school because i wont be getting as much sleeep.
IMO you are a retard.Originally Posted by dontsurfonmytur

3-4 sets of isolation is more than enough
