Quetion about full body workout vs splitting

Which one gives better results if I was looking to get a muscular upper body?

I used to do a full body workout 3x a week but the last month I have changed that to Upper body on Mon Wed and Friday and Legs on Tuesday and Thursday

I have read that a lot of people do a routine such as

    Day 1 chest/tri
    Day 2 back/biceps
    Day 3 shoulders
    Day 4 legs

    or some variation of.

Wouldn't you get better results working out your chest, biceps tri's etc 3x week instead of just 1? You still get plenty of rest in between

    What Am I missing here?

A routine miht be better since you do different upperbody exercises throughout the week. But idk since u could probably do the same thing with a split what whatever.

I think greater frequency is better if you plan it out properly, but a split is perfectly viable for a bodybuilder as well. I much prefer full body and upper-lower programs, but it's also good to cycle between them.

So you would suggest working a bodypart more than once per week? Maybe it's because of my age but I have always liked once per week/bodypart. Although I am considering a 5x5 in the near future.

Definitely. I think splits got perpetuated in the first place because of steroids and pseudo-science BS: the pump, DOMS, and lactic acid burn are all more prevalent with split style training. This isn't to say there is zero connection between any of these factors and hypertrophy, but it is far more complicated than that.
