i have an 100lb heavy bag and i was wondering if i could do 2-3sets of picking it up from the ground and throwing it over right shoulder then putting it down then pick it up again(explosivly(sp?) ) over left shoulder for about 5-6reps. wouldnt it be just like training w/a sandbag?

Functional Lifting = Life

If it's a bag that's hard to grip and full of something small then it's pretty much the same as a sandbag. You can also try overhead pressing, overhead squats, pushups with it on your back, bear hug walks, prisoners walks, dragging it, throwing it up and catching it and a lot more fun stuff. Be creative and really challenge yourself. The nice thing about sandbags is that dropping them on your foot (or other body part) doesn't really hurt a whole lot.
