What should I do?

Looks like I might not be able to go the the gym for the rest of the week. Did legs monday, a nice good almost puke/pass out session, and the next morning woke up with a sore throat. (Monday afternoon, sleep days) Today I got a good 10 hours of sleep, but my throat is just as bad, and I am starting to get a cough. This and no health insurance, so can't go to the doctor. (Started a new job, Don't get health insurance for another 3-4 weeks)
Would lifting be a good Idea? Chest day is in the morning, and I really look forward to chest day. I don't want make my throat worse though.. What should I do?

I think one's workout performance does depend on the overall condition of one's body, so if you are not feeling well, I would suggest you do not do any exercise. I think it's better for you to take more rest and take necessary medications until your health is restore, then you can lift weight again. -- Josh

I was afraid of that. I always hate recovery days, and would go to the gym 7 days a week (would probably burn out though). I can't afford to get really sick though, with no health insurance.
Hopefully missing Chest day this week will not hurt my preformance next week. /sigh
Just starting to get comfortable with free weights now too.

If you're sick you don't belong in a gym. Your body needs time to fix itself and working out will take away from the energy needed to do that. Also I wouldn't want to be working out next to some guy who is coughing and hacking all his germs all over the place.

Look at the systemic effect of weightlifting. It puts great stress on your body, and if you are sick you need extra recovery time. Taking a few days off won't hurt you--if you're overtraining it will actually help.

Lift heavy. Eat well. Rest. Repeat as necessary.

Sorry Little Frank but thats just bad advice, taking a couple days off now will save you a week in bed later.

agree w/ Scotty and Prince, take a few days off. If not your illness will last longer.

Well, stupid me almost went anyway. I actually pulled right into the gym parking lot before I realized what I was doing. Dunno if it was habit or desire to go.
Really good thing I didn't go, my cough has worsened, and my nose is a faucet turned on high. My throat is very sore and it is hard to swallow when I first wake up. Later in the day it gets better, usually feels the best right after I eat. Strange. Been feeling kind of weak lately too, low on energy. Better be good by next week, because Im not going to take off longer.

Sounds like what I had, doctor told me to just keep taking some kind of sinus medicine and tylenol. Take it easy and it shouldn't last to long.

You go into the gym to break down your body so it will grow. If you are sick your are already trying to repair yourself so why dig a deeper hole to get out of. It will just prolong your recovery time and keep you out even longer.
