    correct me if I'm wrong...

but when you exercise, your muscles decrease in size and after the workout and expeccially during the rest/recovery days is when the muscle fibers actually grow, so you should eat more protein and nutrition to feed your muscles during the process and the resting time to get more growth out of that workout.

I was wondering for a few days now about this theory and if it was true.

I don't believe they decrease in size when you workout...but growth does occur when resting...

I've not heard of muscles decreasing in size during workouts but I do believe that protein straight after the session and eating very well in between sessions is vital to aide muscle repair and growth.

Bearing in mind the tiny amount of growth between sessions - any decrease in the session itself would outway progress so I think its probably a myth.

I would love to hear others views on this though!

well, actually they would increase in size due to them being engorged with blood! that is why I always measure my arms after I train them.

Actually you will be pumped during and for a time after your workout so the muscles will be bigger, but after more time the measurements will actually be smaller than before the pump so in a way you are smaller for a short time.
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

Supposedly, anabolism and catabolism occur simultaneously all the time. Net growth occurs when anabolism exceeds catabolism.

Ok do aside from the first thing i posted about muscles being smaller when working out, most of the growth from the workout takes place during the rest/recovery days though, right? And if yes should i eat more protein and nutrition to get faster size from the workout?

repair of tissue takes place when you rest....correct.

should you eat more on rest days? Eh...i think the important thing is that at the end of the day you have gotten a surplus of calories (hypercaloric) and a good balance of protein, carbs and EFAs. You can't ask for much more then that. Train hard, recover and eat healthy and take in more calories then you burn and you are on the way.

Well considering you workout for maybe 4-5 hours a week and you eat/sleep/rest/recover for the other 160 some odd hours, I would say yes. You grow more when you aren't working out. So eat all the time. Everything in sight.

I would guess that most growth occurs during sleep when growth hormone levels peak.

If you read Troubles posts in the health section, sleep is the big equalizer. Quality sleep is more important than any supp and is free. Sounds like a lot of health issues can be attributed to messed up sleeping patterns.

As they often say.... Train, eat, sleep repeat. Good words to live by.
