    Grip Width

When you are doing close grip bench, and you are measuring your grip, how do you measure it?

For example; say you want your "close grip" to fall somewhere between 13 to 20 inches.

Would you measure from the outside of each hand, inside, or center?

I measure the distance between my fists (the outside edge of my pointer fingers) 6" or less.

That seems a bit close. I was informed that it is between 13 and 20 inches for a close grip/ power lifter close grip.

Well I'm 6'7, so I'm assuming my grip is going to be a little wider.

^ Your right. I checked with my tape measure. 10" is about right. I didn't realize how short 6" was... that's way too close!

10 is probably too close also. 13 is about as narrow as you want to go.

My grip is about as wide at my wiener, so yeah 15 inches sounds right.

^ Yeah, I am going to try a few sets with them wider, right now. I don't do them that often and when I do do them I don't go that heavy. I'll try them at 13 and 14 inches and see how that feels.

BigDyl I think you need to put Kenwood on a one day probationary status, until he earns his wings.

According to arnold's book, a closer grip will really hit those inner pecs, and a wider grip will really tax the outer pecs...

I measured the cybex bar today, and from ring to ring (normal grip) it was 28 inches. I did close grip at around 16-18 inches.
