    Front squat lunge?

Does anyone do front squat lunges? I am thinking about throwing them into my new program.

it would be weird because when you lunge, your trunk angle is such that it comes foreward to place your center of gravity over the base of support (your front foot). This places the trunk at an inclined angle. In a front squat, the trunk angle is more uprigth so that you can keep the bar on the shoulders. If you lunge like that you are going to be in more of a sway back posture that would put some pressure on your lower back that it might not like.

If you want to get deeper into the quads, try working in more of an extreme ROM. I like to do split squats with the front leg on an aerobic step (or you can lunge up to it). this allows you to sink the lunge lower and work through more of an ROM and hit the glutes and stabilizers of the knee and hip more.

Yeah, I just did a few with a light loaded BB, not stepping out too far, and it felt okay because I kept my torso/ core tight and strong but I'm sure if I did it with a decent amount of weight it would mess me up. I was just trying to think of a cool way to increase my front squat.
I want to add some lunging to my program. I like BB lunging better than DB, I find it more comfortable.
Split squats are a good idea.

front squat to increase your front squat.....paused reps, bottom position work, all that shit.

no need to re-invent the lunge. throw a BB on your back and have at it.

i have noticed this as well with myself, it seems like a natural motion to sort of 'lean' your torso over the front leg. i wasn't sure if this was the proper way of performing a split squat but trying to stay more upright felt 'wierd' as well it kindda made my rectus femoris sore as hell, i think b/c when your more more upright you tend not only to extend your forward knee and hip but also flex your hip on the back leg. just shit that was running through my mind for a bit, glad it was addressed here.

I usually like to see the trunk and shank parallel to eachother in a lunge.

If it is a split squat, the trunk angle can be kept a little more upright if you want.
