    Deadlifts and maintaining grip

Ok, last night I was doing dead lifts and while I could certainly lift more weight, I couldn't keep my grip!! Are those special 'straps' one can buy good for maintaining it?

some use an alternate grip (one hand over/one hand under).

I use a hook grip....overhand grip with thumbs tucked under the first two fingers.

both are very helpful in holding more weight.

if you have no interest in competing in competitive lifting like powerlifting, olympic weightlifting or strongman, then go to the store and get some straps and use those. Otherwise, you will have to work on your grip to bring it up so you can hold more weight.

Depends on your goals and how much you value grip. Straps will effectively weaken your grip, or do little or nothing for it. Grip training is a better idea if you are concerned about grip. If your focus is bodybuilding, then straps are likely permissible.

    Purists will say never straps.

Were you using dual overhand. You could try an alternating grip (one hand over and one hand under) and alternate the over/under between sets. Give that a try before going to straps.
