yes, they will help your DL/squat (provided you use it properly).

But, they will diminish the development of your core musculature. If used, only use them on attempts greater then 90% intensity.

At your age, that is intensity that you probably don't need to be working at anyway right now.

Belts are to core strength what straps are to grip strength. Some say for bodybuilding purposes straps are excusable; I don't think you can make the same excuse for belts though. I say avoid them.

why not? my goal is strength. so you think it would be a good idea to get a belt to use when igo 90%+?

because at 15 you are still growing. at those high intensities you run the risk of form break down and the potential for injury and/or destruction of growth plates.

I would work to 5 reps (about 85%), which is sufficient for strength.

How long have you been lifting for? What is your training age? Do you have someone supervising you to watch your technique so that they can see if you are doing everything properly so that you can play with heavier loads?

No, I don't think you should buy a belt. Did you understand my post? Make your core stronger!

I tried to say the same thing as this in a previous post of Kenwoods' (pics of me deadlifting) and got completely shot down in flames. Sure I was not as articulate, but many here including mods seem to think that at 15 you can lift heavy without causing injury.

Funny how no-one argues with you.

Actually, you made a comment about how the weight being lifted doesn't matter. I responded by saying that's bullshit, it depends on what your goals are. You also made a comment about lifting large numbers, it had nothing to do with relative intensity.

No you don't need a belt, core strength is very important!

Agree about BB comment and lifting large numbers. However the P-Funk summarized nicely what I was trying to say.

Anyway, back to topic - I dont wear a belt Kenwood, but my 6RM max deadlift is only 350. Probably too light for a belt anyway.

The only reason I use one right now, and have been for a couple months is that I'm getting ready for a powerlifting meet... After my meet's over, I'm not going to use it unless I start getting ready for another one, but I probably won't for at least a few months after this one.
