    Foam roller?

Can someone please help me out... I'm clueless to foam rolling...
I want to start foam rolling but I don't know what foam roller I should get.
Would any of these be a good choice? Scoll down the page and you will see three different types. Are any of these suitable? What should I purchase: the half round, regular foam roller or the EVA foam roller?

Better do an edit cuz I cant see shit.

I recently bought a roller from power systems. Its about 4 feet long and works perfectly. Some pains are gone while other muscles are now sore. Never done this stuff before, but its effective and at times, relaxing.

I got a more expensive one just for making it look nice and inviting to clients. I will prolly get more, but from what I saw on some sights, its basically a pcv pipe with foam around it. I thought, if I am going to pay money for THAT I might as well pay for one that someone put a little more time into making.

Thanks guys. So do you start with a softer one and then progress to a denser/harder one, that's what I don't know.

Once I woke up in the middle of the night having intense pains throughout my lower/mid back whenever I breathed in. It wasn't your average stiff or sore back pains, it was like daggers poking me, it was very uncomfortable. I couldn't sleep with it so I got up and watched TV for a while. I thought it was my kindeys. I didn't know what to do, didn't feel like going to the hospital. The idea to foam roll popped in my head. I went in my basement, foam rolled my back for about 10 seconds, and the pain was gone 100%. I went back to bed and the pain didn't come back. Turned out it was a musclular thing.

What exactly is this thing? You roll on the ground with it behind your lower back?

This is my favorite foam roller. It has a PVC core so it doesn't deform with repeated use.

Also, if you want to learn more about using it, the perform better website offers a free downloadable PDF file with more information.

As well as two DVD's (probably more info than you want/need):

And here is some information (also from PB) about Self-Myofascial Release

This is one of the choices we have where I work. That's a great choice. It is also stiffer and doesn't deform as much when you lay on it, so you can get more pressure in one spot. The large diameter works really well for doing thoracic extensions over it too. If you're a real sadist, you could always take out the PVC pipe and roll on that too. I've tried it; now THAT is pain...
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Thanks GG, fufu, Cow and AKIRA for all the great info. GG the PDF file with all the exercises were very helpful. I got one today and just finished rolling on it after a kick ass bike ride. It was great! How did I live without this thing!
