    Lost.......my ass.

Okay, as some of you may already know, I'm now working out with a minor hernia. During my time away from the gym, I've lost a great deal of tone/size in my legs and glutes. Okay, my legs look like a "normal" man and my ass has left town. However, squats are out....at least for now. Leg extentions, lunges, etc. are on a trial run, until I notice any adverse effects.

So, given my situation, does anyone have any input on excercises that will rebuild my quads and glutes with minmal impact on my injury?

Don't think this is going to heal....without first being repaired. But, at this point it is not a full-blwon hernia, just a small tear.

I'm working out now. At least 'til the bad boy blows out.

I know nothing about hernias, but I think hyperextensions wouldnt bother that, any exercise with hip extension works the glutes.

That's what I am hoping. I guess I'll just have to do as I did yesterday....try new movements within a very slow/strict/controlled form with light weight and see what works.

I hate it when I answer my own questions.

I would just avoid using the Valsalva manuver with a hernia. I would think you could get away with quite about with proper breathing technique, but I would consult a sports medicine doctor about what is off limits.

Yeah, its hard to pince my nose when lifting anyway.

I used to have a hard time avoiding poor breathing techniques in the past (e.g. the Valsalva man.) and will have to pay special attention to breathing this time around. the surgeon who I saw about this initially said that anything (ab work especially) could aggrivate the condition, but when I asked my regular Doctor about it, he basically shrugged his shoulders and gave me a "who knows" response. Not out of apathy, but simply because I won't know what works or is otherwise injurious until I try.

    So I'm trying.

That's why I say you should see a sports medicine doctor. Regular doctors always just give you the most conservative approach possible and don't usually know the full details about getting back into action with an injury.
