    sumperman returns

i read somewhere that the guy who play'd superman was on a stringent weight training plan with alot of suppliments added in. it also said the guy was rather an average joe build wise, but he looked not bad in the film

so i was just wondering out of intersest anyone know the kind of stuff he was doing and what he was taking for it ? or know of any other actors weho had to do this and what they did

I saw a few interviews with Brandon Routh (the Supes actor) on the run up to the films release - he said he had to gain 20lbs of muscle for the film which he did over a period of some six months.

He is only 27 or so, so that should be quite doable if thats all you have to do for six months (eat, train, rest) IMO

I understand Chris Reeve was the same age in 1978 and he had to put on about the same amount of muscle too - they are both about 6'3 or 6'4 oin height.

Christian Bale on the other hand had starved himself for the film he made previously to Batman and had to gain massive muscle weight in 6 months. He did it with loads of eating, training and rest but he famously said that he was so unfit he couldnt run from one end of the gym to the other, he was just bulky.

id say theres some motivation that comes into play too
i work out because i want to be healthy and look good(in my eyes)
they work out however much, however hard because when they are done what they are told to do(in most cases) they get cut a check for a few million dollars
if i could afford to dedicate my entire day to being fit and i knew that if i did it for 4-5 months at the end id recieve millions of dollars. it would be pretty easy to do to say the least

I need more than money to motivate me for any lenght of time. I am not saying money is not important. I am just saying, I can endour a lot of "stuff" for a short period of time for a lot of money. However, I do not find myself in their shoes. I am in my shoes and I like my shoes. Of course a few more lbs of muscle and a few less lbs of fat would make my shoes more comfortable.

I never cared about how some actor trained. Better to look at real athletes for motivation.
