I like Chuck Vogelpohl a lot too. That guy is definitely a monster. He might be a bit of an equipment whore though, I dunno.

fuck that....

Coan and Gillingham train RAW. The lift in the USAPL....that means they have to unrack the weight themself, walk it out and squat...none of this get set up with an ultra wide stance in the monolift and do a half squat (barely hittiing parallel).

I got much more appreciation for those guys then the others. especially after reading some of the articles in the recent MILO were the old time powerlifters were going off on the age of "lifting gear" and big numbers.

Fair enough, but I still give him props. The guy trains like a fucking maniac.

I thought this was pretty impressive too:

The guy squatted 1K in the 198 weight class. Yeah, he was geared, but he also squatted 7xx raw, which is pretty impressive for a 200 pounder!

Better angle. Reasonable depth for a PL record. Some of them are so questionable.

I'm aware that's not Vogelpohl, I just thought this guy was badass too. Vogelpohl was the first to squat 1K at 220, and this guy was the first to do it at 198. I was just on that train of thought.

Like I said though, Byrd gets serious carryover from his equipment as well. That suit gives him almost 300 pounds on his squat. Still, a 7xx raw at around 200 is awesome!

Here's Chuck doing that squat of 1000 @ 220:
http://www.irongame.com/videos/Chuck...1000SQ@220.ram

He can also deadlift quite a bit, which is a lift suits don't help you with much (And the only reason no one has cracked 1K on it yet). Here he is pull 795 in the same meet @ 220:

yea, he is a strong guy. deadlifting that much weight is no joke. I would like to see the squat from the side to see the depth. he moved about 2" though with his stance that wide. still, it is impressive to have that weight on your back and not friggin' crumble.

It isn't that i don't think what he does is cool. But, i don't put him in the same class as guys like Coan and Gillingham. Coan deadlifted 900+ as a 220!

Oh don't get me wrong, I think Coan and Gillingham are animals. No doubt. I just happened to mention another powerlifter that I respect; there are plenty of them. Like I said, you have to see Vogelpohl train. He's a fucking animal in the gym. That's one of the reasons I respect him.

Really, I have to give all elite powerlifters their props. It seems to me there are a good number of bodybuilders who get by on drugs alone with a subpar training ethic, relatively speaking. To be good in powerlifting, or any real sport for that matter, you have to train your fucking ass off and give it your all. Genetics and drugs aren't enough.

can you get copies?

Are they DVD or video tape?

I always wanted to buy it, but from what i hear, the westside BB videos are some of the shittiest quality you can get. It is like guys working out and Louie walking around with his home video camera.

Haha! I actually haven't even smoked in a couple weeks. I haven't had time really. My memory just sucks balls early in the morning. I can't even remember how to wipe my ass properly.
