Post Weightlifting May Boost Glaucoma Risk?

Bench Pressing Heavy Weights Ups Pressure Inside Eyes, Study Shows

(WebMD) Weightlifting makes you stronger, but it might boost eye pressure, making glaucoma more likely...

    ..Full Article

Can anyone comment on this or dismiss it?

This seems to be the key line in the article:

"But this study doesn't prove that. The men were only studied once, so it's not clear if they later developed glaucoma."

And it sounds like proper breathing is a way around this as well

did you even read the entire article?

But this study doesn't prove that. The men were only studied once, so it's not clear if they later developed glaucoma.

If this were the case there would be thousands of guys with glaucoma walking around. Bullshit.

I bet the basic idea is that, since you're really raising your blood pressure during a heavy lift, that it damages the eye because of the pressure.

This sounds like crap. If this were true, everyone that has high blood pressure would have glaucoma.

All I read from your post was "can someon comment on this or dissmiss it."

The article already dismisses it for you.

Aaahhh...that explains all the threads about pot that find their way in Training. It's just the poor, blind, bodybuilders trying desperately to get their vision back.

Pussies, the lot of 'em. You don't need eyes to bench.

OT: That study shouldn't be called a study, it's as valid as a wild guess.

This is not off-topic. I'm sick and tired of all the "studies" that come out claiming how dangerous some aspect of weight training is. They have a preconceived notion of what should happen (based on desire, not science), they don't do a double-blind study and they have a pool of two people, and call it a study.

Every time one of these things come out, I always picture some small, pencil-necked guy (who was bullied in school) sitting in a lab somewhere trying to get even.

I am not really worried though!

Honestly though, I feel alot of pressure when I do heavy pullovers, or when I used to do really heavy leg presses....but never when I do bench pressing...

I actually had a friend of mine pop a blood vessel in his eye doing squats one time...I thought it was so fucking cool. I wanted one so bad...shit so solid red...This is when I picked up squats...had him teach me the form.

This study is stupid...I think taking a rough shit increases pressure...I can think of at least a couple times I must've been pretty red-faced....

At the Arnold Classic Bench Press Championship 2 years ago, Brian Kennely (sp?) when up and benched 820 and when he stood up and faced the crowd, he had blood coming out of his eyes. talk about high blood pressure!

Platz said that sometimes he'd go blind during a squat.

Are these "studies" a ploy by fat people directed towards fat people to give them another excuse not to do anything about being fat?!
